- ○ Method of planting seedlings [transplanting].
- In choosing wet fields, even if a drought occurs, it will not become dry.
- Plowing can be done from the last decade of ten days of the second month till the first decade of days of the third month.
- All wet fields are divided into ten sections, with one section partitioned for raising seedlings, and the other nine sections are intended for [transplanting] the plant seedlings.
- <After finishing picking the seedlings, [transplant the seedlings], including the [section] where the seedlings were raised.>
- First, the section where the seedlings were [previously] grown is plowed according to the method [of cultivating rice], the soil prepared and made ready, and the water drained.
- Trimming willow branches, soften the ends, and after thickly spreading them [to cover the seeds], then stamp them underfoot.
- Leave the soil to dry, and after it has dried, irrigate the field.
- First soak the seeds for three days, put them in the hoch’ŏn <(known locally as kongsŏk)> to dry. After one day passes and the seeds are sown, use a p’anro <(known locally as pŏnji)> to cover the seeds.
When the seedlings have grown over the height of one’s fist and are able to be transplanted, spread karip< (known locally as kaŭlch’o) >or cattle or horse manure over the [previously] plowed section where the seedlings were planted first. When it becomes time to transplant the seedlings, plow again according to the method of cultivating rice to ready and prepare the soil, making it extremely fine. For each transplanting, plant no more than four or five seedlings. Since they have not yet taken root, do not irrigate them heavily. <This method is convenient for weeding, [but] in case of severe drought then the crops will be lost, which is a matter of risk for the farm.>
