Lady Kim of Andong was married to Assistant Major Yoo Chungye. Shinsa cyclic year of the Hongwu reign (1401), Chungye had to go serve guard duty. He told his wife, “Since today is auspicious, I will go out and sleep outside.” His wife said, “I will go out and sleep there as well.” Then she went inside the house and prepared food. In the middle of the night, all of a sudden, there were clamor of people startled and screaming. Servants all ran away. Lady Kim went outside with her head held high. The tiger had already snatched her husband. Lady Kim grabbed a wooden club. Screaming, she rushed forward. With her left hand she caught her husband, and with her right hand she beat the tiger. Nearly after about 60 steps, the tiger let him go and stopped. Lady Kim said, “Now that you have already had snatched my husband, you wish to take me together as well?” Then the tiger left. The husband had fainted. Carrying him on her back, Lady Kim returned home. At dawn the husband regained consciousness. That night, the tiger came again and roared loudly unashamed. Lady Kim opened the door and scolded the tiger with a stick saying, “You too are a creature of spirit. How come you are like this to this extent?” The tiger bit the pear tree next to the house and left. The tree then dried up and died.

Poem)

Out of courtesy [Lady Kim] went inside to prepare food. Good folks leaving to serve the border guard duty slept next to the house.
In the middle of the night, a tiger suddenly roared and snatched [the husband]. Chasing fiercely and hitting with hands, no one got hurt.
With loud roaring, [the tiger] came back again the most startling. [The wife] opened the door carrying a stick and said a warning.
The tiger bit the tree and there was no harm in the end. Finally [we are to] believe the hairy beasts are also of spiritual nature.
