덕수궁 준명당

Definition

덕수궁 준명당(浚明堂)은 내전(內殿)의 하나로 외국 사신을 접견하던 곳인데, 현재의 건물은 1904년 불이 나 타 버린 뒤에 즉조당(卽阼堂)과 함께 지어진 것이다.

경운궁 내 즉조당과 석조전(石造殿) 사이에 위치하고 있으며, 해당 위치에는 원래 경운당(慶雲堂), 덕경당(德慶堂), 관명전(觀明殿) 등이 위치하고 있었다.

고종은 1916년 4월 1일에 덕혜옹주를 위한 유치원을 준명당에 만들게 하였다. 1916년 『순종실록』에는 고종황제가 준명당 유치원에 방문한 사실이 기록되어 있다(『순종실록』 9년 5월 8일).
