청연루 현판

Definition

‘청연’은 ‘맑고 한가함’ 또는 ‘조촐한 연회’를 뜻한다. ‘연(讌 잔치 연)’은‘연(燕)’과 통하며 ‘편안함’, 또는 ‘잔치’라는 뜻으로 쓰인다. 문헌에 따라 ‘淸燕樓(청연루)’로 표기한 곳도 있다. ‘樓(루)’ 자는 옛 서법을 따랐기 때문에 정자체와는 차이가 난다.
