Definition

옥류천 물줄기 중간에 있는 큰 바위. 인조는 1636년 이 바위에 홈을 파 작은 물길을 만들고, 물길이 끝나는 지점을 수직으로 깎아 작은 폭포를 이루게 했다. 바위에 새겨진 글씨들 중 옥류천 세 글자는 인조의 필체다.
그 위에 새겨진 시는 숙종이 지은 것이다. 숙종은 창덕궁 후원에서 경치가 아름다운 세 곳의 정자 중 한 곳으로 바위 남동쪽 떨어지는 폭포를 감상할 수 있는 자리에 있는 소요정을 꼽았다. 정조는 소요암에서 왕희지의 고사를 모방한 유상곡수연을 열었다.
