신덕왕후

Definition

신덕왕후(神德王后,1356-1396)조선 태조의 비. 상산부원군 강윤성(象山府院君 康允成)과 진산부부인 강씨(晉山府夫人 姜氏)의 딸이다. 본관은 곡산(谷山)이다. 별호는 현비(顯妃), 시호는 순원현경신덕왕후(順元顯敬神德王后)이다. 개경의 명문가 딸로서 이성계와 혼인했는데, 당시 이성계에게는 부인 한씨가 있어서 훗날 처첩 구분 논란의 실마리가 되었다. 개경에 거주하며 이성계의 정치적 조언자 역할을 하고 건국을 적극 도왔다. 이방원과 함심해서 정몽주를 제거한 것은 조선 건국에 중요한 사건으로 기록된다. 건국 후 둘째 아들 이방석을 세자로 세워 자신의 아들로 왕위를 계승하고자 했으나 왕자의 난으로 뜻을 이루지 못했다. 자녀는 이방번, 이방석 두 아들과 경순공주가 있다. 능은 정릉이다.
