서오전(鼠獒傳)

서오전의 창작 시기는 18세기 말에서 19세기 중엽 이전으로 추정된다. 이 작품은 전형적인 서류송사형 우화소설(鼠類 訟事型 寓話小說)로서 두 차례의 판결과정을 통해 당대 모순된 사회상이 사실적으로 부각되고 주제의식이 보다 심화 되어 있는 점에서 그 특징을 찾을 수 있다. 인용고사 및 세부 묘사에 있어서도 이들이 상호 유기적으로 연관되는 가운데, 향촌 사회의 계층 갈등, 부패한 양반 관료층의 불법적인 횡포와 부당한 판결 등 사회 비판적이고 고발문학적인 교훈적 성격이 잘 드러나 있는 작품이다. 반영론적인 사회상의 사실적 반영과 등장인물의 갈등관계가 증폭되는 독창적인 구성면에서 작자의 창의성이 돋보인다. 이상 사회와 유능하고 덕망 있는 구원자적 목민관을 기대하는 점에서 향반으로서 이상향을 향한 꿈과 관념세계의 일단을 피력한 작의를 짐작할 수 있다. <서오전>은 흔하지 않게 작자가 명기된 작품으로 우화소설이 창작되고 향유된 계층과 이들의 시각에 의해 주제의식이 분화되고 있음을 확인할 수 있다는 점에서 그 가치가 높다. 앞으로 작자에 대한 새로운 자료가 더 발굴되고 유사한 서류송사형 우화소설(鼠類 訟事型 寓話小說)과의 비교 고찰이 보완되어 문학사의 지평 위에서 새롭게 조명되고 자리매김 되기를 기대해본다.
In this paper, the study of Distinctive characteristics and the meaning in <Seoohjeon>. To do this, firstly I tried to identify the author and the period of creation, and focused on the study of the distinctive characteristics of it in comparison with <Seodaejujeon> in the same category Seodaljeung (1773 -?), the author of <Seoohjeon>, had Yichon of his family clan , Paekham of adult name, Songwa of pen name and the period of it is guessed to be late 18th century to middle of the mid-19th century This work is a typical fable novel of rats` lawsuit and it`s features are that contradiction of contemporary society was magnified realistically and consciousness of theme was further intensified Exemplified old events and details relate to each other organically and through the description of conflicts among classes of rural society, tyranny and wrongful conviction of the corrupt bureaucrats, the informative nature of social criticism and accusation literature was well retained. We can see the creativity of the author in that realistic reflection of social aspects and conflicts among characters are amplified through original plot. We can understand the author`s writing intention of longing for utopia and ideology as a commoner since he was looking forward to capable and virtuous governors to save his society It is unusual the <Seoohjeon> shows its author expressly and it has high value in that we can confirm the classes of creation of the fable fiction and the division of theme consciousness through their vision. I hope that more new material on authors will be discovered and more comparison with same kind of novel of rats` lawsuit will be added so that new light on this work will be shed and positioned in literary history.
