間正月初一日, 雨. 收使最夕來, 乃以水精寺僧智慈之船, 固族行, 官船所不及, 命兵房鎮撫高益堅、吳純等, 回泊于則刀浦, 以為臣渡海之備,判官驗證遣軍官邊石山以出.

비가 내렸습니다.

목사(牧使)가 아침저녁으로 와서 조문(弔問)하였습니다. 수정사(水精寺) 승려 지자(智慈)의 배가 튼튼하고 빨라 관선(官船)도 미치지 못한다고 하며, 병방(兵房)진무(鎭撫) 고익견(高益堅)과 오순(吳純) 등에게 별도포 (別刀浦)로 돌려 대도록 명하여, 신이 바다를 건널 준비를 하여 주었습니다. 판관(判官) 정전(鄭益)은 군관(軍官) 변석산(邊石山)을 보내어 조문하였습니다.

Ist Day, Intercalary First Month. Rain. The Prefect came twice, morning and evening, to express his sympathy. A boat of Chija, a priest of Sujong Temple, being strong, fast and unmatched by the official boats, [the Prefect] ordered military policemen Ko Ik-kyón, O Sun and others to take it round to Pyolto-p'o, moor it, and make it available for my crossing. Judge Chòng Chon sent Pyön Sok-san, an officer, to offer condolences.

初二日,陰,侵晨, 臣别刀浦候風韻,擁義縣訓導崔角、鄉校生徒金鼎 蹲等二十餘罪、內需詞典會重醉及崔根等,皆徒步以隨,至十五里許. 少選, 乾使咖至問關. 是日, 臣之帶去吏程保、金重等所造採 御乘監收 場辦公·私装,刷流移人,括溫占伴們,冒認良民等文籍,及資去全州府上 濟州三邑帳籍十七冊又一冊,濟州三色官上各年帳 戶籍 軍籍等文書, 輸付于牧使,藏之營廳,受書目回送而來.

해뜰 무렵에 신은 별도포의 후풍관(候風館)으로 나아갔습니다. 정의현(佐義縣)훈도(訓導) 최각(崔角), 향교(鄕校)생도(生徒) 김정린(金鼎隣) 등 20여 명과 내수사(內需司)전회(典會)34 박중알(朴重幹) 및 최근 등은 모두 걸어 서 15리 남짓 따라왔습니다.

조금 후에는 목사가 말을 달려와 위문하였습니다. 이 날 신이 데리고 간 아전 정보와 김중 등이 어승(御乘) 점마별감(點馬別監)35 목장(牧場)의 공천(公賤)과 사천(私賤)을 변별하고, 유이인(流移人)을 추쇄(推刷)하고, 멋대로 반당(伴尙)으로 삼거나 양민(良民)으로 잘못 인준한 자 등을 적발한 것 등의 문적(文籍) 및 가져갔던 전주부(全州府)에서 올린 제주(濟州) 3읍 장적(帳籍) 17책과 또 다른 1책, 제주 3읍의 담당관이 올린 매년의 장적·호적(戶籍)·군적(軍籍) 등의 문서(文書)를 봉하여 목사에게 넘겨주어 영청(營廳)에 보관하도록 하고, 그 문서목록을 받아서 돌아왔습니다.

Early in the morning I went to the Hup’ung-gwan in Pyolto-p’o. Ch’oe Kak, the Superintendent of Education of Sõnŭi District; over twenty students, including Kim Chong-nin, of the regional school;6 Pak Chung-han, a Secretary of the Office of Supplies; and Ch’oe Kun and others walked with me. When we had gone about fifteen li Hỏ, the new Prefect, came hurrying up and offered his condolences. This day the officials who had accompanied me, Chòng Po, Kim Chung, and others sealed records that they had kept of private venality, of exiles, containment of outbreaks, suppression of secret societies, and people falsely pretending loyalty; seventeen volumes plus one volume of dossiers we had brought from Chònju Prefecture to the three towns of Cheju; and various ledgers, house registers, and military registers presented by the officials of the three towns of Cheju; and turned them over to the office in charge of the Prefect's treasury. They received a list of the documents and brought it back.
