-|원문5=<div style="text-align:justify">Yours of May 1st just to hand. It told me of the decision granting an addition to my salary. I can not tell you the load that it lifted from my shoulders. I felt that I had enough to live on & that I could by care now be able to go along without feeling that I was steadily getting into debt. The matter of the school has not yet been definitely settled but I am afraid that my not acquiescing at once has put matters so that the school will go into the hands of Mr. Hutchinson a man who is not a Christian. I could not see my way clear to any other course at the time & also Mr. Dinsmore asked me to follow out this plan. Whatever may be the result I shall feel that it will be for the best.  I did not decline, nor did I see my way to accept. If now I am definitely urged to take the place I shall feel it my (duty) to do so. The other day General Churn as we call him one of the Vice-pres. of the Home Office again asked me whether I would accept the place. I again urged their continuing the school with the present teachers. If the present teachers are not retained I shall be very sorry. They are fine men & will do good work. I think they have made mistakes but you know it is much easier to stand on one side & see the mistakes that others are making than to do a thing right yourself but after having been allowed to do this for some time it would be easy to avoid many of the snarls on which the present teachers have struck. If the government make a definite proposal to me I shall insist upon the retention of at least one of the present teachers & I think by putting our "shoulders to the wheel" we could make something that will be a credit to us. Of course we could not clear away all the obstacles in one way but we could steer clear of many of them.</div>

We shall by & have all things ready & the school under way by the time the men get here. We already have quite a number of applications for admission. But how to do all the work with only two men we do not know. We will not be able to secure the aid of Messrs Hulbert & Gilmore so that it will leave our hands quite as full. I would like to be relieved of the work of the Treasury-ship. I am not a business man & do not know how to keep books. I would be very glad if one of the (new) men could be appointed to this place.
