옛날 옛날에, 해변에 한 어부가 살았답니다. 매우 고기를 잘 잡아서 곧 많은 돈을 벌었지요. "와- 오늘도 월척(越尺)을 수백마리 잡았군."

Once upon a time, there lived a fisherman at the beach. He was so skillful in fishing that he made a lot of money. "Yeppi! I caught hundreds of big fish today."

그런데 그는 행복하지 않았아요. 왜냐하면 자기 아내가 못났다고 생각했기 때문이죠. "흥! 우리 마누라 상판때기는 호박덩어리요 몸뚱아리는 영락없는 절구통이로다."

But he was not happy, because he thought his wife was ugly. "Humph! My wife has a fat pumpkin face but has no waist. Like the body of a mortar!"

어느날 그는 예쁜 첩(妾) 하나를 들여왔어요. 그것이 그의 아내를 질투의 화신이 되도록 만들었죠. "얼씨구, 잘 한다 잘해. 두고보자."

One day, he brought in a beautiful concubine. It made his wife burn with jealousy. "Hello? You guys are kidding. You will see."

아내는 첩을 볼 때마다, 시비를 걸었어요. "어딜 굴러왔어, 이것아!"

Whenever she saw the concubine, she provoked her into a quarrel. "Why did you come here, you bitch!"

그런데, 그 첩도 만만한 사람이 아니었어요. 반격했거든요! "뭐라? 이 흉물이 말도 거치네"

However, the concubine was not an easy person. She fought back! "What? this horrid creature speaks only horrible things."

그것이 아내를 격노케 만들었고, 그녀는 살인을 모의했어요. "어디 그놈의 주둥이 죽어서도 떠들어대나 보자"

It made the wife furious, so she plotted a murder. "Let me see if your damn mouth could chatter like that even in the grave."

오밤 중, 첩은 밖에서 괴상한 소리를 들었어요. 맙소사! 아내가 숫돌에 칼을 갈고 있는 거예요! "쓱쓱 쓱쓱"

At midnight, the concubine heard a strange sound from outside. Oh, no! The wife was sharping a knife on a whetstone! ''"RASP-RASP"''

그날 밤부터 첩도 반격 준비를 했죠. "쥐새끼도 밟으면 짹 하는 법이여"

From the night on, the concubine also prepared to counterattack. "Even a worm will turn."

두 여인은 서로 죽인 기회만 노리게 되었고, 이것은 하늘을 노하게 했답니다. "괘씸토다!"

Both of the women watched for an opportunity to kill each other, which made Heaven angry. "What a shame!"

그래서 하늘은 벼락을 내리쳐 두 여인들을 데려가고, 이제 어부만이 홀로 남겨져 그 바위가 되었답니다. "다 내 탓이여!"

So Heaven struck both of them by lighting and took their lives away. Now there was the fishman alone, who became the rock. "It's all my fault!"
