This building was built between 1912 and 1932.

It was first used as the residence of Rev. Theodore S. Soltau (1890-1972).

From 1921, he devoted himself to Christian missionary activities and education in the Cheongju area.

However, he was forced to leave Korea by the Japanese in 1937, as he opposed forced worship at Japanese Shinto shrines.

Rev. Harry J. Hill, director of the Cheongju Bible School, also lived here from 1947 to 1959.

This building was built in 1932 as the last among the six buildings in this complex.

It was constructed in memory of Rev. Jason G. Purdy (1897-1926) with funds raised by his friends and fellow Christians in the U.S. Rev. Purdy died of typhoid in 1926, while he was serving in the
southern part of Chungcheongbuk-do Province.

The name of this building, in both Korean and English, is incised on each side of the entrance.

This building was built in 1911, and was used as the residence of Frederick S. Miller (1866-1937) and his family.

Miller was the first American missionary leader in Chungcheongbuk-do Province, and devoted himself to building these six Western-style buildings.

This two-story red brick building has a basement and features a traditional Korean-style roof.

The H. M. Forsyth Memorial Building, completed in 1906, was the first among the Western-style buildings in Tap-dong.

The building construction was funded by Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Forsyth of Chicago, Illinois, who donated USD 3,000.

Foreign missionaries lived in this building.

The tombstone of Rev. Miller, the first owner of the house, stands in front of the building.

The building shows a combination of Western and Korean architecture, featuring red bricks and arched Western-style windows, but a Korean-style tile-roof with decorated eaves.

The foundation is made of granite stone taken from a prison where early Christian martyrs were imprisoned.

The heating and indoor plumbing systems are Western style.

The Lowe Memorial Building was built as a bible school in 1911.

The building construction was funded by Mr. and Mrs. J. S. McClung of Wichita, Kansas, who donated USD 800 in memory of their late son who had died young.

Western doctors, nurses, missionaries, and their families lived in this building.

Dr. D. S. Lowe and his family lived in this building until 1937, when all missionaries were expelled from Korea by the Japanese colonial government.

He was the last American director of Duncan Memorial Hospital.

Duncan Memorial Hospital, built in 1912, was the first modern hospital in Cheongju.

It is referred to by locals as Somin Byeongwon, People’s Salvation Hospital.

The building construction was funded by Mrs. J. P. Duncan, who donated USD 7,000.

The two-story building with a basement had 20 beds for inpatients, an operating room, and a consultation room.

In 1917, after an outpatient clinic was built in front of Jeil Church, this hospital was used mostly for inpatient hospitalization.

The hospital provided medical treatment for the poor.

1921년 청주에 와서 18년 동안 활동한 소열도(T. S. Soltau: 蘇悅道) 목사가 거주하였던 건물이다.

그는 선교와 교육활동에 봉사하다가 1937년 일제의 신사참배를 반대하여 강제 출국 당하였다.

해방 이후에는 청주성경학교원장으로 활동한 허일(Hary J. Hill: 許一) 목사가 1947년부터 1959년까지 거주하였다.

일신학원의 설립과 운영을 위한 자금을 마련하기 위해, 선교사들이 사들였던 건물부지를 일부 매각하였는데, 이 건물도 매각되어 현재 유일하게 개인 소유가 되었다.

건축 연대는 확실하지 않으나 1912년에서 1932년 사이로 추정된다.

양관의 건물 6동 가운데 가장 늦은 1932년에 완성된 건물이다.

건물은 지하 1층과 다락을 포함하여 3층이며, 평면이 T자 모양의 건물로 지붕은 함석을 입혔다.

건물 왼쪽에는 준공된 해를 알리는 1932가 새겨져 있으며, 현관 좌우에는 한글로‘ 부례선 목사 기념 성경학교’와 영어로‘ Jason G. Purdy MEMORIAL BIBLE INSTITUTE’라고 새겨져 있다.

1911년에 지어진 건물로 지하 1층, 지상 2층이다.

붉은 벽돌 건물로, 지붕은 전통 한옥과 같이 다각형의 모양에 기와를 덮고 있다.

이 건물은 청주에서 초기부터 활동하며 양관을 신축하는데 헌신한 충북 최초의 선교사 민노아(F. S. Miller: 閔老雅, 1866~1937)가 가족과 함께 살았던 집이다.

이 건물은 1906년 양관 가운데 처음으로 완성되었다.

건물은 붉은 벽돌로 지었으며, 유리 창문을 아치식으로 치장하였으나, 지붕은 전통적인 기와지붕으로 하였다.

처마 장식과 주초도 한옥과 흡사하여 한국 전통양식과 서양식이 어우러진 건물이다.

내부는 온돌 대신 스팀 난방과 벽난로를 시설하고, 실내 화장실을 갖추었다.

건물 앞에는 이 건물의 첫 주인인 민노아 목사의 묘비가 있다.

이 집은 주로 독신 선교사나 초임 선교사들이 거처하였다.

이 양관은 옛 순교자들이 갇혔던 형무소에서 가져온 화강석을 초석으로 사용하였다.

1911년 제일 처음 지어진 4호 양관(포사이드 기념관)의 남쪽에 지어진 건물이다.

이 건물은 본래 성경학교로 사용하고자 건립된 것으로 미국 캔자스 주 위치타(Wichita)에 살던 매클렁(J. S. McClung) 부부가 일찍 세상을 떠난 두 아들을 기념하기 위해 8백 달러를 기부하였다.

이 건물은 소민병원(蘇民病院: Duncan Memorial Hospital)에 근무하던 의사와 간호사 등 선교사의 가족들이 사택으로 사용하였다.

특히 노의사라고 불리던 소민병원 원장 노두의(盧斗義: D. S Lowe)가 1937년 일제의 신사참배 강요를 반대하여 선교사들과 함께 강제 출국 당할 때까지 거주했다.

이 건물은 1908년 미국의 던컨(J. P. Duncan) 부인이 병원건축을 위하여 7천 달러를 기부하여 1912년에 완성하였으며, 청주 최초의 근대적 면모를 갖춘 병원이었다.

지하 1층과 지상 2층의 붉은 벽돌집으로, 선교사들은 던컨 기념병원(Duncan Memorial Hospital)이라 불렀으나, 청주 시민들은 소민병원(蘇民病院)이라 불렀다.

이 병원은 진료실과 수술실을 갖추고 병상 20개를 가진 청주 최초의 현대식 병원으로, 주로 어려운 처지의 환자들을 진료하였다.

1917년에 소민병원의 진료소가 제일교회 옆에 마련되자 이 건물은 주로 입원실로 사용되었다.
