==국문 해설문==

이 왕지는, 조선 초기의 문신이며 정치가인 [http://encykorea.aks.ac.kr/Contents/Index?contents_id=E0029374 성석린(1338~1423)]에게 태종이 내려준 문서이다.

왕자의 난을 일으키고 왕위를 차지한 태종에게 불만을 품고 태조 이성계가 함흥으로 가서 돌아오지 않자, 성석린이 옛 친구로서 태조를 설득해 서울로 모셔와 태종과 화해하도록 주선하였다.

그 공을 높이 여겨 태종 2년(1402) 성석린을 익대좌명공신(翊戴佐命功臣), 창녕부원군(昌寧府院君)으로 봉하고, 태종이 친히 그 내용을 적어 임명장을 하사하였다.

성석린은 세조 때 사육신의 한 사람이었던 [http://encykorea.aks.ac.kr/Contents/Index?contents_id=E0029365 성삼문(成三問)]의 종조부이다.

성삼문은 세조의 왕위 찬탈에 반대하고 단종 복위 운동을 주도하다 발각되어 목숨을 잃었고, 그의 집안은 화를 당하였다.

그 후손들이 이곳 진안으로 피난하면서 이 왕지를 가져와 소중히 간직해 왔다고 한다.

This royal edict was conferred by King Taejong (r. 1400-1418) to Seong Seok-rin (1338-1423), a civil official of the early Joseon period.

Before ascending to the throne, King Taejong was involved in the murder of his own brothers for the crown.

His father, King Taejo, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), was so distressed by the incident that he retired to his hometown in Hamheung with the intention of never coming back.

In order to restore his relationship with his father, King Taejong sent Seong Seok-rin, who was an old friend of King Taejo, to Hamheung. Seong successfully persuaded the former king and brought him back to the capital.

In recognition of his efforts and achievement, King Taejong bestowed Seong with honorable titles, and appointed him as a meritorious subject by conferring this royal edict.

Seong was also a granduncle of Seong Sam-mun, one of the Six Martyred Ministers during the reign of King Sejo (r. 1455-1468).

As a result of opposing King Sejo, Seong Sam-mun was put to death by the king.

This led to great misfortune for his family, with his descendants taking refuge in the Jinan area.

During their refuge, they sought to preserve this royal edict and brought it with them.
