경회루

Definition

외국 사신을 접대하거나 군신(君臣)이 연회하는 장소이다. 정면 7칸, 측면 5칸의 중층(重層) 팔작지붕 건물이며, 국보 제224호이다. 근정전 서북쪽에 있는 방형 연못 안에 세운 이 건물은 나라의 경사가 있을 때 연회를 베풀던 곳이다. 1412(태종 12)년에 만들었으며, 임진왜란으로 불탔다가 1867(고종 4)년에 중건하였다. 손색 없는 비례감으로 조선 말기 누각 건축의 대표작으로 꼽힌다.
