배자(褙子)는 저고리 위에 덧입는 짧은 조끼 모양의 옷이다. 소매와 옷고름이 없고 주로 안에 털을 넣어 겨울철 방한복으로 입었다. 서유구(徐有榘)의 《임원경제지 섬용지(林園經濟志 贍用志)》에 배자에 대해 실려있다.
