목포 번화로 일본식 상가주택-3

목포 번화로 일본식 상가주택-3은 일제 강점기 목포 상업의 중심지였던 행정(幸町, 현 행복동) 사거리 모퉁이에 조성된 건물이다. 긴 한 지붕 아래 여러 상가가 분할되어 있는 형태이다. 1층은 상가이고, 2층은 주택으로 사용이 가능한 일본식 주상 복합 건물이다. 건축물 대장에는 이 건물이 ‘산야합명회사(山野合名會社)의’ 소유에서 나누어진 것으로 되어 있다. 이는 목포 해운 조합 주식회사 대표, 목포 신보 주필 등을 지낸 일본인 ‘야마노 다키조(山野瀧三)’ 와 관련이 있는 회사이다.

이 건물의 1층 모퉁이 부분은 1980년 5 · 18민주화 운동 당시에 목포 지역 지도자였던 안철 장로가 운영했던 동아 약국 자리이다. 이곳은 근대 건축물이자 민주화 운동 사적지라는 의미를 동시에 지니고 있다. 건물 2층에는 건립 당시 구조와 왜돗자리(다다미)방 등이 그대로 남아 있다.

Japanese Style House of Beonhwa-ro in Mokpo-3

Japanese Style House of Beonhwa-ro in Mokpo - 3 is a Japanese dwelling located by the road which leads from a primary school (currently Yudal Primary School) formerly attended by Japanese students towards the former Oriental Development Company. It was built in 1935 and initially owned by Japanese merchant Hiraoka Dorajiro, who mainly sold oil and served an official at the Mokpo Chamber of Commerce.

This house gives an impression of stability, with an entrance door on the right side of the front and a protruding two-story space on the left side of the roof. A screen has been installed above the left window of the first floor as a shield against direct sunlight.

Recognizable by its unique shape, the building was used as a filming location for the Korean movie The Life and Death of the Hollywood Kid (1994). Although there used to be several similar houses built side by side here, only this house remains.
