Former Japanese Christian Church in Mokpo
National Registered Cultural Heritage No.718-6

The Former Japanese Christian Church in Mokpo building was attended by Japanese people during the Japanese colonial rule of Korea. It was constructed in 1922 and extended in June 1927. Originally a two-story stone structure, now only the first floor remains as the second floor was removed. The central part with the entrance protrudes a little, and on both sides of the entrance have windows. The stone signboard at the front entrance reads “Mokpo Japanese Church”.

This building is the only Japanese church building to remain from the period of Japanese colonial rule. The church was attended by Yun Hak-ja or Douchi Chizuko (1912~1968), who married Yun Chi-ho and who took care of orphans at the Gongsaengwon Welfare Facility throughout her life.
