==Definition==

[[목포공립심상고등소학교|목포공립심상고등소학교(木浦公立尋常高等小學校, 1898~ )]]는 목포에 있는 일본인 자녀를 위한 초등과정의 학교로 세워졌다. 목포 개항으로 일본인들의 거주가 늘게 되었고 그들의 자녀를 위한 교육의 필요성으로 목포일본거류민단 산하의 목포심상소학교가 설립되어 5-6명의 학생으로 시작되었다. 1899년 11월 교사 1동을 지었고, 1901년에는 3학급 67명이 있었다. 1912년 학교 이름을 ‘목포공립심상고등소학교’로 바꿨으며, 1938년에는 다시 ‘목포산수심상고등소학교’로 개칭하였다. 일본이 패망하며 물러가면서 학교는 폐교되었고, 1945년 12월에 '목포유달국민학교'로 새롭게 개교하였다. 1996년 '목포유달초등학교'로 개명하였다. 1929년에 건축되었던 옛 학교 건물은 현재 국가등록문화재 제 30호로 지정되어 있다. <ref> 목포시, 『목포시사』,2권 제 5편 목포의 교육, 2017, 645-709 쪽.</ref>
