-[[동양척식주식회사목포지점|동양척식주식회사목포지점(東洋拓殖株式會社木浦支店,1920~1945)]]은 1920년에 개설되었다. 일본이 조선 경제를 독점 착취하기 위해 1908년에 조선에 설치한 특수 국책회사로 전국 주요 도시에 지점을 설립했다. 호남 지역에서는 1909년 나주 영산포에 처음 설치했으며, 1920년 6월 1일자로 목포로 옮겨 목포지점을 설치했다. 동양척식회사의 주요 업무는 토지 매입, 농업, 토지 개간 등에 필요한 자금을 빌려주는 대부업과 토지를 매수한 것으로는 재차 조선인에게 높은 소작료를 받는 임대업도 하였다. 목포지점의 건물은 1921년 11월 7일 세워졌으며, 영업장과 객장, 사무실로 쓰인 2층 본동 건물과 과 단층 부속건물이 있었다. 동양척식주식회사는 해방과 함께 영업이 중단되었으며, 이후 미 군정에 의해 접수되었고, 1946년 신한공사로 재창설되었다가 1948년 정부 수립이후 이 회사가 소유한 모든 토지는 토지개혁을통해 전국의 농민들에게 분배되었다. 동양척식주식회사목포지점의 건물은 한동안 다른 용도로 이용되어 오다, 부속건물은 1999년 철거되었고, 본동 건물은 2006년 내,외부 개보수하고 복원하여 전라남도기념물 제 174호로 지정되었으며, 현재 목포근대역사2관으로 이용되고 있다. <ref> 목포시, 『목포시사』, 1권 제 1편 목포의 문화유산, 2017, 715 쪽. </ref>
