산성 안 배수로는 빗물과 지하수의 흐름을 한쪽으로 유도하여 성벽에 대한 직접적인 훼손을 방지하는 기능을 한다. 남성 외성 배수로의 구조를 살펴보면 2개의 석축렬(石築列)로 이루어져 있고, 4차례에 걸쳐 조성된 것으로 확인된다.
1차 배수로는 폭 80cm, 깊이 55cm 정도이며, 계곡부에서 남수문지까지 거의 일직선으로 설치되어 있다. 2차 배수로는 길이 21m, 폭 96cm, 깊이 45~70cm이며, 단순히 퇴적토 위에 설치한 것이 아니라 1차 배수로 위에 많은 양의 흙을 붓고 다진 후 돌을 쌓아 조성되었다.
3차 배수로는 2차 배수로에서 동쪽으로 2~3m 떨어진 곳에 조성되었으나 대부분 무너졌다. 4차 배수로는 3차 배수로에서 다시 동쪽으로 2m 떨어져 조성되었으며, 깊이 70cm 정도의 지표면을 땅파기한 후 그 안쪽으로 돌을 채워 넣는 방식으로 만들어졌다.

Drainage Ditches in the Outer Section of the Southern Fortress
The drainage ditches in the outer section of the Southern Fortress were installed to prevent damage to the fortress walls by directing the flow of rainwater and underground water safely out of the fortress. There are four drainage ditches in total, with the second ditch built atop the first.
The first drainage ditch, measuring 80 cm in width and 55 cm in depth, was installed to facilitate water drainage out through the south watergate. The second ditch, measuring 21 m in length, 96 cm in width, and 45-70 cm in depth, was installed on top of the first ditch, by covering the first ditch with dirt, stamping it down, and filling it with large stones. The third ditch was installed 2-3 m east of the second ditch, but was discovered in a collapsed state. The fourth ditch was installed 2 m east of the third ditch, by digging to a depth of 70 cm and filling it with large stones.
