해설문

국문

의성김씨 추파(楸坡) 김정락(金貞洛)과 그의 아들 김병식(金秉植)이 살았던 집이다. 보물 제450호인 천전리 의성김씨종택 안에 건립되었으나, 후대에 종택에서 분가하였다고 한다. 현존 건물의 건립연대는 건축양식으로 미루어 보아 1850년대 이후로 추정되며 최근 몇 차례 보수하였다고 한다.

규모는 정면 6칸, 측면 5칸의 ‘口’자형 기와집이나 건물의 크기가 작고, 형태 또한 일반 ‘口’자형과는 다르며, 마당에 정면 2칸, 측면 1칸의 행랑채가 부속되어 있다. 의성김씨의 전통주택이 밀집한 곳에 있다. 또한 19세기 건립 당시의 양식을 잘 보존하고 있어 문화적 가치가 높은 것이 특징이다.

김병식은 1907년 안동지역 근대교육의 출발점으로 천전에 설립된 협동학교의 교사와 교장(1911년)을 지낸 바가 있으며, 독립운동에 투신한 공로로 1995년 건국훈장 애족장이 추서되었다.

영문

This traditional Korean house was used as the residence of Kim Jeong-rak and his son Kim Byeong-sik, both of whom were members of the Uiseong Kim Clan.

Originally, this house was built within the complex of the Head House of the Uiseong Kim Clan (Treasure No. 450), but was later moved and reconstructed at the current location. The building is estimated to have been built in the late 19th century, and the architectural style of the period has been well-preserved.

The house’s name, “Chupa,” was also the pen-name of Kim Jeong-rak. Kim Byeong-sik served as a teacher and the principal of Hyeopdong School, Andong’s first modern secondary educational institution established in 1907. In 1995, he was awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation for his outstanding contribution to the independence movement.
