철의 삼각지대는 6.25 전쟁 때 치열한 전투가 벌어졌던 곳으로, 이곳에서 수십만 명의 대한민국 아들딸과 유엔군 장병이 조국과 자유민주주의를 지키기 위해 북한군에 맞서 싸우다가 생명을 바쳤다.

6.25 참전 유공자 회원과 뜻 있는 분들의 성금과 국가보훈처·강원도·철원군·제6보병사단의 지원을 받아 이분들의 숭고한 희생과 유훈을 영원히 후세에 전하기 위해 이곳에 탑을 세운다.

Monument to the Soldiers Killed in the Battles at the Iron Triangle during the Korean War

This monument was built in 2012 to commemorate the soldiers who were killed in various battles in the Iron Triangle at the time of the Korean War (1950-1953).

The Iron Triangle refers to the area between Pyeonggang, Cheorwon, and Gimhwa in Gangwon-do Province located around the 38th parallel. At the time of the Korean War, it was the largest battlefield of many deadly fights due to its strategic importance, and hundreds of thousands of ROK and UN troops sacrificed their lives to defend Korea and the principles of liberal democracy.

영문 해설 내용

이 추모비는 한국전쟁 당시 철의 삼각지대에서 벌어진 여러 전투에서 전사한 장병들을 기리기 위해 2012년에 세워졌다.

철의 삼각지대는 강원도의 평강, 철원, 김화를 잇는 삼각지대로 38선 일대에 위치하고 있다. 한국전쟁 당시 전략적 중요성으로 인해 치열한 쟁탈전이 여러 차례 벌어졌던 최대 격전지이다. 이곳에서 수십만 명의 한국군과 유엔군이 조국과 자유민주주의를 지키기 위해 생명을 바쳤다.
