'''Stupa of Hyeonnae-ri'''

 +
A stupa is a structure containing the relics or remains of eminent Buddhist monks.
 +
 +
This stupa of Hyeonne-ri is assumed to have been made during the Goryeo period (918-1392). Because no remains of a Buddhist temple can be found in the surrounding areas, it is unknown whether this is the original location of this stupa or whether it was moved here from another place. The design of the stupa resembles a stone pagoda.
 +
 +
The stupa is missing its base tier and only part of the decoration at the top remains.
 +
 +
The local people consider the stupa of Hyeonne-ri a guardian of their village and perform here a stone stacks ritual with offerings to the stupa each year on the 14th day of the first lunar month.

*This is the opening for stupas I’ve found on the site. Q: should it be “an eminent Buddhist monk” since it’s normally only one person’s relics that are contained in a stupa, as I understand?

*The translation of 탑제 is from here http://folkency.nfm.go.kr/en/topic/detail/2952 But since in this case it’s not really a stone stack, im not sure if it’s appropriate to call it that. Abt the ritual: http://tmaru.net/Board_02/43469
