During the Korean War (1950-1953), fierce battles took place in the Pocheon region as it was located along the 38th parallel, and thus the transmission of various traditions was halted – including the performance of farming music. In the 1980s, a group of farmers led by the late Song Gyeong-nam tried to resume their performance with the support of the local farmer’s union. Beginning in 2005, scholarly research began to properly understand and recreate the original music and dance. In 2011, the group won first prize at the Jeonju National Nongak Competition. Since then, a performance association was established which now performs regularly.
