청주한씨 시조제단비

이 비는 청주를 본관으로 하는 대표적인 씨족 중의 하나인 청주한씨의 시조인 한란(韓蘭,853~916)을 제사하기 위하여 제단을 마련하고, 이와 함께 세운 사적비이다. 한란은 청주지역의 호족으로 고려 태조 왕건이 후백제를 정벌하러 청주를 지날 때 군량미를 도와 고려의 개국 공신이 된 인물이다. 1605년(선조38)에 청주목사 겸 청주진병마절제사(淸州鎭兵馬節制使)로 부임한 한백겸(韓百謙)이 시조의 유적을 고증하여 찾고, 그의 동생인 이조참판 한준겸(韓浚謙)이 시조의 내력을 상세히 서술한 비문을 지었다. 비문에 의하면, 당시 위토(位土:문중의 제사 등의 비용을 충당하기 위한 토지)를 마련하고 제단을 쌓아 담을 둘러 경계를 표시하였음을 알 수 있다. 현재는 비석만 남았고, 비문도 거친 화강암에 새긴 관계로 풍화가 심한 상태여서 판독이 거의 불가능하다.

This stele is for the commemoration of the altar for Han Ran, founder of the Cheongju Han Clan. During the waning years of Unified Silla (668–935), Han supported Wang Geon, the founder of the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392), and provided Wang and his troops with food and shelter when they camped at the village. Wang defeated rival rebels and accepted the surrender of Silla and, thereafter, proclaimed the new kingdom of Goryeo. Han was awarded the title of meritorious subject of Goryeo for his actions. Han Baek-gyeom, a descendant of Han Ran, uncovered the former site of Han’s altar in 1605 and erected this stele in commemoration of the site. The stele has since become illegible due to erosion.
