해설문

국문

1621년(광해군 13년) 부여군 외산면 만수리에 창건되었으며, 매월당(梅月堂) 김시습*(金時習, 1435-1493)의 위패**를 모셨다가 흥선대원군의 서원철폐령(1868년)으로 없어졌던 것을 1884년 현재의 위치로 옮겨 복원하였으며 이때 단종의 폐위를 보고 홍산으로 내려와 김시습과 절친한 사이가 된 오옹(迂翁) 김효종(金孝宗, 1414-1493)이 추가 배향했다. 현재의 건물은 1970년에 다시 건립하였다.


  • 김시습 : 우리나라 최초의 한문소설인 『금오신화』를 지었으며, 생육신의 한 사람으로, 수양대군이 단종을 폐위하고 왕위에 오르자 21세에 승려가 되어 전국을 떠돌다가 남은 생을 부여군 외산면 소재 무량사(無量寺)에서 보냈다. 무량사에는 김시습초상(보물 제1497호), 무량사김시습부도(유형문화재 제25호) 등 그의 흔적이 남아 있다.

Kim Si-seup demonstrated excellent talent in learning and was one of the most renowned Confucian scholars. However, in 1455, when King Sejo (r. 1455-1468) usurped the throne from his nephew King Danjong (r. 1452-1455), Kim became distraught and gave up his studies to become a Buddhist monk. As a monk, Kim roamed around the country and spent his final years at Muryangsa Temple in Buyeo.

영문 해설 내용

이곳은 조선시대의 학자인 김시습과 김효종을 모신 사당이다.

김시습은 학문에 뛰어났으며 가장 저명한 유학자 중 한 사람이다. 1455년 단종(재위 1452-1455)이 숙부인 세조(1455-1468)에게 왕위를 빼앗기자, 이에 좌절하여 학문을 접고 승려가 되었다. 이후 전국을 떠돌다가 남은 생을 부여의 무량사에서 보냈다.

김효종은 문신이었는데, 단종의 선위를 본 후, 관직에서 물러나 부여에서 은거하였다.

현재의 건물은 1970년에 다시 지은 것이다.
