It is uncertain when this ritual house was first built. The renowned Confucian scholar Yi Saek (1328-1396) referenced the ritual house in his poetry, and King Taejong (r. 1400-1418) of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910) held rituals here before ascending the throne, so it is presumed to date to at least the late period of the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392).

Rituals are presumed to have continued to be held at Chamseongdan Altar until the late Joseon period. The ritual house was closed in 1883, and the Buddhist statues located here were moved to Jeondeungsa Temple (located about 5 km to the east). All that remains of this site is a three-tiered stone foundation, four stone pillars in front of the foundation, a well, and a rock inscribed with a warning to not enter the area.
