해설문
국문
직방재는 개령 현감을 역임한 금강 장신이 학문을 닦고 연구하려고 세운 건물로, 1971년에 새로 지었다. 앞면 3칸, 옆면 1칸 반 규모의 기와지붕 건물이다. 중앙에 마루가 있고 양쪽에 온돌방을 각각 두었다.
직방재에는 장신의 시나 문장을 모아 엮은 문집의 목판이 보관되어 있었으나, 도난당하여 시중에 나온 문집 목판을 다시 매입하였다. 문집 목판은 현재 안동에 있는 한국국학진흥원에 보관되어 있다.
비록 건물은 현재의 것이지만, 금강 장신과 관련된 이야기가 전해지고 문집이 보관되었던 곳이라는 점에서 의미가 있다. 직방재는 원래 금광리 마을에 있었으나, 영주댐 건설로 현재의 위치로 옮겼다.

영문 해설 내용
이 건물은 금광리의 인동장씨 집성촌인 금강마을에 있던 것으로, 입향조 장여화(1566-1621)의 손자인 장신(1629-1711, 호: 금강)이 학문을 닦고자 세웠다. 처음 지어진 시기는 알 수 없고 1971년에 새로 지어졌다.
직방재에는 장신의 문집인 『금강집(錦江集)』을 인쇄하기 위해 만든 목판이 있었다. 이 목판은 한때 도난당했으나, 시중에 나온 목판을 후손들이 다시 매입했다. 현재 목판은 안동에 있는 한국국학진흥원에 보관되어 있다.
