해설문

국문

공소(公所)란 천주교 본당에서 멀리 떨어져 있는 천주교 신자들이 예배를 드릴 수 있도록 마련한 작은 성당이다. 평상시에는 사제(신부나 수녀)가 거주하지 않고 정기적으로 본당에서 신부가 파견되어 종교의식을 행한다.

이 건물은 1866년 대원군이 천주교를 탄압하는 교령을 내린 이후 외지에서 피난 온 천주교 신자들이 신앙을 지키기 위해, 산골에 들어와 마을을 형성하고 신앙생활을 유지하기 위해 세운 곳이다. 수분공소는 1920년대에 지은 한옥성당으로 건립 당시의 모습을 비교적 잘 간직하고 있다. 한옥이 성당으로 사용되던 시대적 특징을 잘 보여주고 있을 뿐만 아니라 당시 천주교 신자들의 생활상을 간직하고 있어 종교사적 가치가 있다.

영문 해설 내용

공소란 천주교 신자들을 위한 작은 예배소이다. 평상시에는 신부가 상주하지 않고, 정기적으로 신부가 방문했을 때 미사를 집전한다.

1866년부터 1871년까지 한국 역사상 최대 규모의 천주교 박해가 계속되었으며, 이 마을은 당시 피난 온 천주교 신자들에 의해 형성되었다. 마을에 공소가 처음 세워진 것은 1913-1914년 경이었으며, 1920년대에 개축되었다. 원래는 초가지붕이었으나 1970년대와 1980년대에 교체하였다.
