Baegyangsa Temple and Baekhakbong Peak, Jangseong

The area in Baegamsan Mountain where Baegyangsa Temple and Baekhakbong Peak are located is famous for its beautiful scenery of the temple buildings, surrounding rocks, and forests. From ancient times, scholars came to this place, leaving many works that captured the landscape.

Baegamsan Mountain is located on the border between Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do Provinces, and is particularly famous for its autumn foliage. It also provides a natural habitat for 1,500 species of trees, including a Japanese Torreya Forest (Natural Monument No. 153) and a Gobulmae Plum (Natural Monument No. 486).

Many esteemed Buddhist monks of Korean history stayed at Baegyangsa Temple, which is said to have been founded in 632 by the monk Yeohwan of the Baekje kingdom (18 BCE–660 CE). Among the temple's buildings, Daeungjeon Hall and Ssanggyeru Pavilion, which look toward Baekhakbong Peak, are especially beautiful.
