However, he was framed and killed by his political rivals in the same year.

해설문

국문

이방실 장군은 1344년 고려 충목왕이 왕위에 오르자 세자시절 원나라에 들어갈 때 모신 공으로 중랑장이 되었으며, 공민왕 3년(1354) 대호군이 되자 원나라의 요청에 따라 반란을 일으킨 다루가치 노연상 부자를 진압하였다.

공민왕 8년(1359) 평안도 철주에서 4만의 홍건적을 물리쳤으며 이듬해 평안도 함종에서 홍건적에게 빼앗겼던 성을 되찾고 우두머리를 붙잡았다.

공민왕 10년(1361) 홍건적 20만이 평안도 삭주 쪽으로 다시 침입해오자 서북면도 지휘사가 되어 방어하였으나 참패하여 공민왕은 복주(안동)로 피신하고 수도인 개성은 함락되었다. 이후 1362년 총병관 정세운의 지휘아래 안우, 최영 등과 개성을 다시 되찾고 홍건적을 물리치는데 큰 공을 세웠다.

하지만 이를 시기한 김용이 공민왕의 문서를 위조하여 정세운을 죽게 하였고 그 책임을 안우, 김득배와 함께 이방실에게 모함하여 죽임을 당하였다.

묘소는 1978년 건립한 묘비가 있고, 근래에 세운 석물들이 조선시대 사대부의 묘에 쓰던 모습을 따라 세워져 있다.

영문 해설 내용

고려시대의 무신인 이방실과 부인의 묘이다.

이방실은 충목왕이 세자시절 원나라에 머물 때 호종하였고, 그 공을 인정받아 높은 관직에 올랐다. 1359년 홍건적이 침입한 후, 1362년 난을 진압하고 수도를 탈환하는 데 큰 공을 세웠다. 그러나 그의 공을 시기한 정적들의 모함을 받아 살해되었다.

이방실은 부인 강씨, 신씨와 함께 단분에 합장되어 있다. 봉분 앞에 세워진 묘비와 석물들은 모두 1978년에 새로 만든 것이다.
