해설문

국문

진민사는 홍건적을 소탕한 김용비(金龍庇)의 업적을 기리기 위해 의성김씨 오토재(五土齋) 문중과 그 지역에 사는 사람들이 세운 사당이다. 진민사는 고려 말에 지어 조선 초기에 제사를 지낼 수 있는 틀을 갖춘 것으로 추정한다. 여러 차례 불이 나서 건물이 불타 없어진 뒤 다시 지었지만, 소장된 고문서는 원본 또는 일부 사본이 전승되어, 지금은 의성 조문국 박물관에 보관되어 있다.

문서는 16세기 후반인 조선 중기부터 근현대까지 끊이지 않고 계속 작성되었다. 사당의 제사, 재산 관리, 문중의 문화 등을 살펴볼 수 있는 귀중한 자료인 동시에, 기록 문화 유산으로서 의미도 크다. 한 문중에서 긴 기간 동안 향사와 문중과 관련된 문서를 간직해 온 점이 특별하다.

During the Red Turban invasions (1359-1362), the king briefly retreated from the Goryeo capital to the Andong area, and around this time, Kim Yong-bi defeated the invaders in the neighboring Uiseong area.

진민사는 고려 후기의 문신인 김용비를 기리기 위해 세워졌다. 김용비는 홍건적의 침입으로 공민왕(재위 1351-1374)이 안동으로 피난했던 무렵, 의성 일대의 도적 무리를 소탕하였다. 사당은 고려 말 조선 초에 세워진 것으로 추정되며, 이후 여러 차례 화재로 소실되었다가 다시 지어졌다. 1980년대에 후손들이 사당을 비롯한 부속 건물들을 다시 지었다.
