국문
소우당 고택은 영천이씨의 집성촌인 산운마을 한가운데에 있다. 소우당은 조선 후기 의성 지방의 양반집으로, 살림채와 별당에 해당하는 안사랑채의 두 영역으로 나누어져 있다. 살림채는 대문채, 안채, 사랑채, 중문채로 되어 있다. ‘−’자형 대문채를 들어서면 ‘ㄱ’자형 안채와 ‘ㄴ’자형 사랑채, 중문채가 합쳐서 전체적으로 트인 ‘ㅁ’자형이다. 사랑채는 소우(素宇) 이가발(李家發)이 19세기 초에 지었다고 전하며, 안채는 1880년대에 고쳐 지었다고 한다.
안채와 사랑채로 이루어진 중심 영역의 서쪽에 별도의 토담을 둘러 넓은 공간을 만들고 그 안에 별당으로 불리는 집을 지었다. 주위에는 연못을 조성하고, 여러 가지 나무를 심어 숲을 만드는 등 여유롭고 운치 있게 꾸며 놓았다. 안채와 사랑채에서 각각 출입할 수 있도록 문을 두었다.

영문 해설 내용
이 집은 현 소유주의 7대조인 이가발(1776-1861, 호: 소우)이 19세기 초에 지었다.
대문채를 들어서면 오른쪽의 살림 영역과 왼쪽의 정원으로 나누어져 있다. 살림 영역에는 안채, 사랑채, 중문채가 마당을 가운데 두고 ㅁ자형을 이룬다. 안채는 1880년대에 고쳐 지었다고 한다. 정원에는 담장을 두르고 별당을 두었으며, 연못을 조성하고 주위에 여러 가지 나무를 심어 운치 있게 꾸몄다.
이 집이 위치한 산운마을은 16-17세기부터 형성된 영천이씨의 집성촌이다.
