해설문

국문

적조암은 대곡사에 딸린 작은 절이다. 한창이었을 때는 대곡사에 딸린 작은 절이 9개나 되었지만 지금은 적조암만 남아 있다. 구포루는 적조암에 유일하게 남아 있는 옛 건물로 상량문(上樑文)*을 보면 1847년에 지은 것이라 볼 수 있으나 18세기에도 고쳐 지은 것으로 전해진다. 구포루란 이름도 봉황의 다른 이름인 ‘구포가 머문다.’는 뜻에서 유래하였다 한다.

적조암 구포루는 1847년 당시 인법당(人法堂)**으로 지었으나, 대곡사에서 살았던 고승들의 초상화를 보관하던 진영각(眞影閣)***의 역할도 했다.

현재 구포루는 건물의 일부가 파손되고 법당이 방으로 바뀌고, 방 뒤쪽으로 벽장을 새로 만드는 등 원래의 모습을 많이 잃었다. 그러나 인법당이지만 다락처럼 높게 만든 마루를 가졌다는 점이 매우 독특하다. 또 다른 지역에서는 찾아 볼 수 없다는 점에서 가치가 있다.


  • 상량문: 상량식을 할 때 상량을 축하하기 위해 지은 글. 새로 짓거나 고친 집의 내력을 적어 건물에 보관해 두기도 한다.
  • 인법당: 큰 법당이 없는 절에서 승려가 머무르는 곳에 불상을 함께 봉안한 전각, 혹은 승방을 가리킨다. 인법당(因法堂)이라고도 한다.
  • 진영각: 고승이나 선지식의 영정을 모신 전각.

영문 해설 내용

이 건물은 1847년에 처음 지었으며, 18세기에 고쳐 지은 것으로 전해진다. 대곡사의 부속 암자인 적조암에 유일하게 남아 있는 옛 건물이다.

대곡사는 1368년에 창건된 사찰로, 임진왜란 때 소실되었다가 1605년에 재건되었다. 한때는 부속 암자가 9개나 되었지만, 현재는 적조암만 남아 있다.

처음 지어질 당시 이 건물은 법당과 승방의 역할을 겸했다. 규모가 작은 사찰이나 암자에서는 법당을 따로 짓지 않고 승려가 거처하는 방에 불상을 함께 봉안하기도 하였다. 이후에는 대곡사에 머물렀던 고승들의 초상화를 이곳에 보관하기도 하였다.

‘구포루’라는 이름은 ‘봉황이 머무는 곳’이라는 뜻이다.
