Yonginhyanggyo Local Confucian School is presumed to have been built in the central area of the Yongin area in the early 1400s, shortly after the establishment of the Joseon dynasty. After being burnt down during the Japanese invasions of 1592-1598, it was rebuilt in today's Gugyo-dong in 1641. In 1686, it was relocated to its original location, and around 1900, it was moved its current location west of Beopwasan Mountain. During the Korean War (1950-1953), all buildings except the shrine were burned down. Beginning with the construction of the lecture hall in 1963, all the other buildings have since been rebuilt.

Although the shrine has been rebuilt several times, it retains the typical appearance of 17th-century local Confucian school buildings of Gyeonggi-do Province. Inside, 25 spirit tablets for Confucian sages, including Confucius, are enshrined. Every year, on the 25th day of the eighth lunar month, a ritual is held to commemorate these Confucian sages.
