해설문

국문

‘정사’는 학문 연구나 정신 수양을 목적으로 세운 건축물이다. 용오*정사는 조선 고종 때인 1885년에 무장의 유생들이 기삼연과 정관원의 영정을 안치하기 위해 세웠다.

용오 정사에는 내삼문 상운루와 사당 덕림사, 숙소 홍의재, 강당 경의당 등이 있다. 홍의재는 S자형으로 구부러진 나무의 중심선을 절묘하게 맞춘 기둥과 연기 막이가 독특하다.* 덕림사는 지붕 처마를 받치면서 장식을 겸하는 공포가 기둥 위와 기둥 사이에 있는 화려한 다포 양식의 건물이다. 상운루와 덕림사는 정읍 입암에 있었던 보천교* 건축물 중 일부를 1930년대에 이곳으로 이건한 것으로 알려져 있다.

Yongojeongsa Shrine

This shrine holds the portraits of the Confucian scholar Jeong Gwan-won (1857-1920, pen name: Yongo) and his son Jeong Bang-gyu (1883-1947).

In 1896, amidst increased meddling of Japanese imperialist forces on the Korean peninsula, Jeong Gwan-won raised a civilian army against the Japanese. Soon after Korea's King Gojong passed away in 1919, Jeong Gwan-won wailed in mourning on a rock behind the village. He died the following year.

영문 해설 내용

이곳은 유학자 정관원(1857-1920, 호: 용오)과 아들 정방규(1883-1947)의 영정을 모신 사당이다.

정관원은 1896년 일본 제국주의에 맞서 의병을 일으켰으며, 1919년 고종 임금이 돌아가시자 마을 뒤 바위 위에서 곡을 하다가 이듬해 세상을 떠났다.

사당은 정문, 강당, 숙소, 내삼문, 사당으로 이루어져 있다. 사당인 덕림사는 1934년에 세웠으며, 이 때 정관원의 아들 정방규의 영정을 추가로 모셨다. 건물 외벽에 그린 벽화에 연꽃과 모란 등과 더불어 자동차, 맥주병 등의 서양 문물이 함께 등장하는 것이 특이하다. 숙소인 홍의재의 기둥은 자연 그대로의 나무를 사용하여 굽어있는 것이 특징이다.
