국문
농요는 농민들이 힘겨운 농사일의 고단함을 해소하고 풍년을 기원하기 위해 부른 애환(哀歡) 서린 노래이다.
예천통명농요는 예천읍 통명리 일대를 중심으로 전승되어 온 노동요*로, 현재 이상휴(李相烋), 안용충(安龍忠) 등 전승자들이 농요의 보존을 위해 노력하고 있다.
1979년 통명리 농민 45명으로 구성된 농요단이 제20회 「전국민속예술경연대회」에 참가하여 대통령상을 수상하면서 그 가치를 인정받았다. 예천통명농요는 앞소리의 끝과 뒷소리의 앞을 부분적으로 겹치게 부르는 특징이 있다. 앞소리와 끝소리가 끊어지지 않고 이어져, 두 소리가 한데 어울려서 나오는 이중창과 같은 효과를 낸다.
농요의 내용은 모심기 소리인 <아부레이수나>와 <도움소>, 논매기소리인 <애벌매기>와 <상사디야>, 논매기가 끝날쯤 부르는 <방애소리>, 논을 다 매고 나오면서 부르는 <에이용소리>, 집으로 돌아오면서 부르는 <캥마쿵쿵노세>, 마당논매기, 타작소리인 <봉헤야>가 있다.

농요는 농민들이 힘겨운 노동의 고단함을 해소하면서 집단으로 행하던 농사일의 능률도 높이고, 풍년을 기원하기 위해 부른 노래이다.
예천통명농요는 예천읍 통명리 일대를 중심으로 전승되어 온 농요이다. 내용은 노동의 진행 과정과 동작에 따라 구별된다. 모심기 소리, 논매기소리, 논매기가 끝날쯤 부르는 소리, 논을 다 매고 나오면서 부르는 소리, 집으로 돌아오면서 부르는 소리, 마당논매기, 타작 소리가 있다. 일부 농민들이 앞소리의 끝부분을 부를 때 나머지 농부들이 뒷소리의 앞부분을 겹쳐 부르기 때문에 노래가 끊임없이 이어지고, 이중창처럼 들린다는 특징이 있다.
