해설문

국문

영천향교 대성전은 조선 세종 17년(1435)에 지어졌고, 중종 8년(1513) 무렵, 광해군 14년(1622) 무렵을 비롯해 여러 차례 보수하면서 오늘날의 모습을 갖췄다. 이 건물에는 공자를 비롯한 성현 25분의 위패를 모셨으며, 봄과 가을에 제향을 올린다.

3건물의 규모는 정면 5칸, 옆면 3칸이고, 단층 맞배집*이다. 전퇴(前退)**를 두지 않고, 정면 평주칸***에 바로 문과 창을 내었다. 기둥을 높게 만들어 건물을 훤칠하게 지었으며, 건물 윗부분의 구조가 간결하여 내부의 구성이 경쾌하다.


  • 맞배집: 건물 앞뒤에서만 지붕면이 보이고 양측면의 벽 상부가 삼각형으로 된 집.
  • 전퇴(前退): 건물의 전면에 붙인 퇴칸
  • 평주칸: 평기둥으로 이루어진 칸
