국문

영양 하담고택은 1710년경 조시벽(趙是壁)이 지은 것으로 전해진다. 조시벽은 임진왜란과 병자호란에서 공을 세워 자헌대부 지중추부사(資憲大夫知中樞府事)를 역임한 사월 조임(沙月 趙任)의 손자이다. 조임의 후손인 조선 후기의 학자 하담 조언관(荷潭 趙彦觀)이 이곳에서 태어나서 하담고택이라는 이름은 그의 호를 딴 것이다. 하담고택에는 조시벽의 아들이 심었다고 하는 회화나무가 있어서 쌍괴당*이라고도 한다.

하담고택은 ㅁ자 형태의 건물로 정면의 왼쪽에 팔작지붕**의 사랑채가 높이 솟아 있고, 그 뒤편의 안채는 다른 집들과 달리 지붕이 독립된 구조로 길게 놓여 있다. 하담고택은 사월종택(沙月宗宅)***과 그 사랑채인 월담헌(月潭軒), 그리고 사고종택****과 더불어 조 씨 문중의 역사와 문화를 살펴볼 수 있는 곳이다.


  • 쌍괴당(雙槐堂): 쌍괴당의 ‘괴(槐)’는 회화나무의 뜻이다.
  • 팔작지붕(八作지붕): 지붕 위에 人자 모양으로 널빤지를 붙여서 삼각형의 면이 있는 지붕.
  • 사월종택(沙月宗宅): 한양 조씨 사월파의 종택. 영양읍에 있음.
  • 사고종택(沙皐宗宅): 조임의 넷째 아들인 사고 조정옥(趙廷玉)이 지은 집. 영양읍에 있음.
