Born in Jinan, Sin Ui-ryeon took care of his sick father during the Japanese invasions of 1592-1598. One day when a group of Japanese army invaded this village, Sin begged mercy for the life of his ill father. Moved by the son's filial devotion, the Japanese commander wrote Sin’s name on a paper and set a fire on it. Nonetheless, the paper did not burn down but instead flew up to the sky. Surprised by this, the Japanese commander left an announcement saying, “A filial son lives in this village,so other Japanese would not invade this village.
