해설문

국문

여수절도사안숙사적비는 조선 순조 9년(1809)에 전라좌수영으로 부임한 안숙(安潚)의 공적을 기려 순조 23년(1823)에 세운 비석이다.

비의 상단에는 ‘절도사안공사적비(節度使安公事蹟碑)’라고 쓰여 있다. 비문에는 안숙이 관아의 성을 수리하고, 가뭄으로 고통을 받던 백성들을 구제하는 데 힘쓴 내용, 충무공 때의 도면을 참고하여 거북선을 새로이 복원한 내용, 세금의 폐단을 지적하여 바로잡은 내용 등이 새겨져 있다. 비문은 김이각(金彛恪)이 글을 짓고, 이집원(李輯愿)이 글씨를 썼다.

조선 후기 전라좌수영의 생활사를 엿볼 수 있는 자료이다.

Stele of An Suk, Yeosu

This stele was erected in 1823 to commemorate the achievements of An Suk, who was appointed to the post of commander of the navy headquarters in the East Jeolla-do in 1809.

The achievements of An Suk during his service include overseeing a renovation of the navy headquarters’ fortress, providing help to the struggling peasants amidst a drought, and fighting unjust taxation schemes. He also supervised a restoration of the headquarters’ old turtle ship (geobukseon) based on the blueprints from the times of the Japanese invasions of 1592-1598.

The stele consists of a pedestal, a body stone, and a capstone. The text of the stele records the achievements of An Suk and provides valuable information about the headquarters’ history during the late period of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910).

영문 해설 내용

이 비석은 1809년 전라좌도 수군절도사로 부임한 안숙의 공적을 기리기 위해 1823년에 세워졌다.

안숙은 전라좌수영성을 수리하고, 가뭄으로 고통을 받던 백성들을 구제하였으며, 세금의 폐단을 지적하여 바로잡았다. 또한 좌수영에 있던 군함인 거북선이 낡게 되자 임진왜란 때의 도면을 참고하여 복원하기도 하였다.

비석은 받침돌, 몸돌, 머릿돌로 이루어져 있다. 비문에는 안숙의 공적이 기록되어 있으며, 조선 후기 전라좌수영의 생활사를 엿볼 수 있는 자료가 된다.
