양구 공수리 지석묘군은 주막거리 마을 앞 서천 물줄기를 따라 한 줄로 늘어선 선사 시대 무덤 떼를 가리킨다. 지석묘는 우리나라 청동기 시대를 대표하는 무덤 양식으로서 고인돌이라고도 부른다. 주로 경제력이 있거나 정치 권력을 가진 지배층의 무덤이었을 것으로 추측하고 있다.<br />

우리나라의 고인돌은 여러 가지 유형이 있는데, 공수리 지석묘군에서는 탁자식 고인돌 5기, 개석식 고인돌 7기가 발굴되었다. 탁자식 고인돌은 편평한 4개의 받침돌을 세워 지상에 무덤방을 만들고 그 위에 덮개돌을 올려놓은 모습이다. 개석식 고인돌은 받침돌이 없는 대신 땅속 구조가 다양하며 지역마다 특색이 있다.<br />
