Samcheonggyo Bridge and Uhwagak Pavilion of Songgwangsa Temple

Samcheonggyo is a stone bridge that passes over a creek in front of Songgwansa Temple and serves as the entrance to the temple complex. On top of the bridge is a pavilion named Uhwagak. The bridge and pavilion were built in 1707 and renovated in 1774.

Under the bridge's arch is a decorative stone dragon head which is said to guard against evil. The pavilion has different roof shapes on either end. The roof at the front is a hip and gable roof, but the one at the back is just a gable roof because it is too close to the nearby Cheonwangmun Gate.

Inside the pavilion, there are several plaques with poems written by literati who visited the temple. The plaque bearing the name of the temple was calligraphed by Kim Gyu-jin (1868-1933), a well-known calligrapher of the late 19th-early 20th century.
