해설문
국문
연화사 칠존불비상*은 사각 모양으로 불상과 명문이 새겨져 있고, 대좌*와 함께 전해지고 있다. 원래는 지붕 덮개돌이 있었던 것으로 보인다.
홑 연꽃잎 대좌 위 앞면에는 아미타 극락정토의 모습을 형상화하여 본존불인 아미타불을 가운데 두었고, 여래상을 중심으로 나한상, 보살상, 신장상 등 총 7구의 상을 새겼다. 옆면과 뒷면에도 각각 1구의 불상을 새겼다. 크기는 높이 51cm, 밑변 폭 33cm, 측면 폭 10cm로, 전체 모양이 큰 연꽃잎을 연상케 한다.
이 불비상은 세종시(구 연기군)를 중심으로 발견되는 독특한 양식으로, 형식이 신문왕 9년(689)에 만들어진 기축명아미타불비상(보물 제367호)과 유사하여 같은 시기에 만들어진 것으로 추정된다.

This Buddhist stele consists of a pedestal with lotus petal designs and a body stone with carvings of buddhas, bodhisattvas, arhats, and guardian deities. It is presumed that it originally also had a roof-shaped capstone.
It is presumed to have been made in the late 7th century during the Unified Silla period (668-935). It was found in 1961 together with another Buddhist stele (Treasure No. 649) at Saengcheonsa Temple Site near Yeonhwasa Temple.
