In the middle of the pond, there is a small island which is said to be the tomb of the horse of General Han, the guardian spirit of the Jain area. According to a village legend, at the turn of the Unified Silla (668-935) and Goryeo (918-1392) periods, General Han came up with the idea to distract the Japanese invaders by dressing up as a woman and performing a dance with his sister while wearing magnificent flower crowns. Following this, shrines in honor of General Han were built in the village, and on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month each year, a ritual in his honor was held, during which a procession stopped by this horse tomb.

Samjeongji Pond and Horse Tomb

This artificial pond was created in 1480. It covers an area of 30,000 sq. m and has a water storage capacity of 73,800 tons.

Its name, meaning "pond of the gathering three," comes from the fact that at the time when the pond was built, this place was where three streams of water pooled together. The pond is also known as Twin Pond, because it is divided into two sections.

Various artifacts, such as earthenware and roof tiles, were excavated from the area of the horse tomb in 1988 during the dredging of the pond.
