This local Confucian school is presumed to have been established in 1127. It was initially named Sujuhyanggyo, after the former name of today’s Bupyeong area. In 1310, the administrative name of this area was changed to Bupyeong, and the school was renamed to Bupyeonghyanggyo. The original buildings were completely destroyed during the Manchu invasion of 1637, and the complex was rebuilt in the current location in 1688. The majority of the buildings present today were repaired and renovated in the 1980s.
