해설문
국문
문경 녹문리 고병숙 가옥은 조선시대의 일반 살림집으로 산양면 녹문리에 자리 잡은 개성 고씨 가옥 가운데 하나이다. 자료에 따르면 고몽익(高夢翊, 1780~1851)이 순조 28년(1828)에 지었다고 한다.
이 가옥은 안채, 사랑채, 대문채로 구성되어 있으며 모두 남서쪽을 바라보고 있다. 원래는 사랑채 오른쪽에 중문간을 둔 ‘ㅡ’자 모양의 아래채가 있어 ‘ㅁ’자 모양이었으나 1980년 후반에 아래채를 철거하여 지금은 안채와 사랑채를 튼‘ㄷ’자 모양을 하고 있다.
대문채는 여덟 팔(八)자를 이루는 팔작지붕이 특이하며, 사랑채 옆면에 중문을 내고 수납공간을 많이 둔 것이 특징이다. 대청 뒷면과 옆면 창호에는 머름을 들이지 않고 문턱을 낮추었다. 조선시대 전통 건축 양식에서 벗어나 19세기 한옥의 변모 과정을 잘 보여주는 건물이다.

영문 해설 내용
이 집은 고몽익(1780~1851)이 1828년에 이 마을로 들어오면서 지었다. 이후 녹문리에는 개성고씨가 세거하였다.
이 집의 건물들은 앞에서부터 대문채, 사랑채, 안채 순으로 배치되어 있으며 모두 남서쪽을 바라보고 있다. 원래는 사랑채 오른쪽에 부속건물이 하나 더 있었으나, 1980년대 후반에 철거되었다.
사랑채에는 오른쪽에서부터 대청, 방, 부엌, 방을 두었고, 맨 왼쪽은 앞쪽에는 작은 마루를 두고 뒤에는 작은방을 두었다. 대청과 사랑방 사이에 문을 달아, 필요할 때에는 문을 열어두고 공간을 넓게 사용할 수 있게 했다.
안채는 대청을 중심으로 왼쪽에는 부엌, 안방, 작은방이 있고, 대청마루 오른쪽에 작은방이 하나 더 있다.
