국문
만일사 오층석탑은 고려 시대에 만들어진 것으로 추정되는 탑이다. 원래는 법당 앞에 있던 것을 1970년에 법당을 다시 지으면서 지금의 위치로 옮겼다. 전체 높이는 2.27m 규모이며, 넓은 지대석 위에 1층의 기단*을 쌓고 5층의 탑신부를 차례대로 올렸다. 전체적으로 둔중한 비례를 보인다.
가장 아래쪽 기단부는 각 모서리에 기둥과 안상(眼象)**을 얕게 새겨 놓았다. 기단부에서 위쪽에 있는 갑석*** 밑면에는 연꽃무늬를 조각했다.
탑신부는 1층 지붕돌(屋蓋石)과 몸돌(塔身)을 따로 만들었고, 지붕돌 아래쪽에는 3층의 계단식 받침을 조각했다. 지붕돌의 낙수면은 짧고 뭉툭한 형태에 처마의 반전이 심하고, 밑면에도 2단씩 받침을 두어 매우 두터운 인상을 준다. 몸돌의 각 모서리에도 기둥 모양을 새겼고, 5층 몸돌에는 각 면마다 불상을 조각했다.
탑의 가장 위쪽 부분인 상륜부는 대부분 빠져 없어지거나 잃어버렸으며, 승려의 공양 그릇인 발우를 거꾸로 엎어 놓은 형태의 복발(覆鉢)만 남아 있다.

영문 해설 내용
불탑은 부처의 유골을 모신 상징적인 조형물이다. 모든 탑이 진신사리를 모신 것은 아니지만, 부처를 모신 신성한 곳으로 여겨 신앙의 대상이 된다.
이 오층석탑은 고려시대에 만들어진 것으로 추정된다. 원래는 법당 앞에 있던 것을 1970년에 기존 법당을 허물고 현재의 건물을 지으면서 지금의 위치로 옮겼다.
