해설문

국문

이집(李集)은 고려 말기의 문신으로 본관은 광주(廣州)이고 호는 둔촌(遁村)이다. 정몽주, 이색, 이숭인 등과 교유했다. 고려 공민왕 17년(1368)에 신돈의 정치를 비판한 후 화가 미칠 것을 예견해 아버지를 모시고 영천(永川)현재 영천시으로 피신하였을 때 친구인 최원도가 적극 보호해주고, 둔촌의 아버지가 돌아가시자 그 곳에서 장례를 치러준 이야기가 유명하다.

이집은 개경으로 복귀한 후 바로 벼슬에서 물러나 지금의 성남 금토동과 여주를 오가면서 독서와 농경으로 세월을 보냈다. 사망 후 현종 10년(1669)에 세운 광주현재 서울 강동구 암사동의 구암서원(龜岩書院)에 제향되었다. 그의 문집으로는 『둔촌잡영(遁村雜詠)』이 남아 있다.

둔촌 이집의 묘는 부인 영주 황씨(郢州黃氏)와의 합장묘이다. 석물로는 봉분 앞쪽으로 혼유석, 상석, 사각 향로석, 장명 등이 차례로 있다. 상석 좌·우에는 망주석과 문인석이 한 쌍씩 있으며 천막을 칠 때 끈을 묶는 차양석 네 개가 상석 주변에 있다. 봉분 옆에는 묘의 주인공을 표시한 묘표가 있다.

이집은 광주 이씨의 중시조로서 고려에서 조선으로 교체되는 시대의 격변기를 살아간 역사적으로 중요한 인물이며 묘역도 원형을 비교적 잘 유지하고 있다.

둔촌 이집 묘역은 1993년 8월 2일 성남시 향토유적 제2호로 지정되었다가 2008년 5월 26일 경기도기념물 제219호로 승격되었다.


영문

Tomb of Yi Jip

This is the tomb of Yi Jip (1327-1387), a civil official and scholar of the late period of the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392), and his wife Lady Hwang.

Yi Jip passed the state examination in 1347 and was well known for his skill in writing and unwavering principles. He was friends with other renowned scholars of the time such as Jeong Mong-ju, Yi Saek, and Yi Sung-in.

In 1368, Yi Jip criticized Sin Don, a prominent Buddhist monk and advisor to the king. Worried about angry backlash, he fled with his father to Yeongcheon, where his friend Choe Won-do protected them and later held a funeral for Yi’s father upon his death. Yi returned to the capital in 1371 after Sin Don was executed for treason, and was appointed supervisor of the palace library, but resigned shortly thereafter. He spent the rest of his life going back and forth between today’s Seongnam and Yeoju areas while reading, writing poetry, and farming.

In front of the tomb mound are a tombstone, a stone spirit seat, a stone table, a stone incense table, a stone lantern, two stone pillars, and stone statues of two civil officials.

In the vicinity are also the tombs other members of the Gwangju Yi Clan, including some of his descendants.

영문 해설 내용

고려 후기의 문신이자 학자인 이집과 그의 부인 황씨의 묘이다.

이집은 1347년 과거에 급제하였으며, 문장과 절개로 이름을 떨쳤다. 그는 당시의 저명한 학자인 정몽주, 이색, 이숭인 등과 교유하였다.

1368년 이집은 신돈의 정치를 비판한 뒤 화가 미칠 것을 예견해 아버지를 모시고 영천으로 피신하였다. 그곳에서 친구인 최원도가 그들을 적극 보호해주었으며, 이집의 아버지가 돌아가시자 장례를 치러주기도 하였다. 이집은 신돈이 역모로 처형된 후인 1371년 개경으로 복귀하였고, 궁궐 내 도서관에 해당하는 관서의 관직을 역임했다. 그러나 곧 관직에서 물러난 이집은 지금의 성남과 여주를 오가며 독서와 농경으로 여생을 보냈다.

봉분 앞에는 묘비, 혼유석, 상석, 향로석, 장명등, 망주석, 문인석이 있다.

또한 주변에는 이집의 후손을 비롯한 광주이씨 인물들의 묘소가 있다.
