해설문
국문
대전 충남대학교 구 문리과대학은 1958년 건축가 이천승의 설계로 건립된 건물이다. 현재의 문화동에 충남대학교 보운캠퍼스가 조성될 당시 문리과대학(대사동 소재)으로 사용되었으며, 충남대학교 내에 현존하는 가장 오래된 건물이다.
건물의 구조는 장방형의 긴 평면으로, 북쪽에 복도를 두고 남쪽으로 단위 공간을 배치하였다. 주 출입구는 중앙이 아닌 우측에 있으며, 출입 공간은 개방감을 주는 기둥 방식으로 계획되었다. 입면은 정확한 모듈에 따라 창 나누기와 벽면을 구성하여 안정적인 형태의 모더니즘 건축을 구현하였다. 현재는 충남대학교병원 행정동으로 사용되고 있는데, 외부 형태는 본래의 모습을 그대로 살리면서 내부 공간을 용도에 알맞게 수리한 것이다.
대전 충남대학교 구 문리과대학은 한국전쟁 이후 대전에 건립된 교육연구시설의 대표적인 건물이다. 이는 장식성을 배제하고 기능과 합리주의에 입각해서 구현한 모더니즘 건축 양식을 보여 주는 건물로, 교육 및 건축사적으로 중요한 의미가 있다.

Former School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Chungnam National University
After Chungnam National University was founded, this building was built in 1958 as a lecture room and laboratory of the School of Liberal Arts. It was designed by architect Lee Cheon-seung (1910-1992) and is the only remaining building built in the 1950s, thus being the oldest building affiliated with Chungnam National University.
The entrance of the building is not located in its center but on the right side of it, designed with a pillar support construction, a method giving a sense of openness. The exterior displays an incarnated modernist architectural style based on function and rationalism, and with accordance with the exact modules, the windows were made and the walls were composed.
After the School of Liberal Arts moved to the current Daeduk Campus, it was used as a business school and is currently used as the administrative building of Chungnam National University Hospital.

영문 해설 내용
이 건물은 1952년 충남대학교가 개교한 이후, 문리과대학의 강의실과 연구실로 사용하기 위해 1958년에 건립되었다. 건축가 이천승(1910-1992)이 설계하였으며, 1950년대에 지어진 건물로는 유일하게 남아 있어 충남대학교 소속 건물 중 가장 오래되었다.
건물의 출입구가 중앙이 아닌 오른쪽에 있으며, 필로티 구조로 개방감을 주는 방식으로 설계되었다. 외관은 기능과 합리주의에 입각해서 구현한 모더니즘 건축양식을 띠고 있으며, 정확한 모듈에 따라 창을 만들고 벽면을 구성하였다.
문리과대학이 현재의 대덕캠퍼스로 이전한 뒤 경영대학원으로 사용되다가 현재는 충남대학교병원 행정동으로 쓰이고 있다.
