These two statues - a seated Amitabha Buddha in Geungnakjeon Hall and a standing bodhisattva in Bogwangjeon Hall - were both made made using a dry lacquer technique. In this technique, the basic shape of the sculpture is first made from clay. Then, it is repeatedly covered with several layers of hemp cloth soaked in lacquer sap, lacquered, and colored or gilded until it is complete. It is said that this kind of statue was mainly produced between the late period of the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392) and the early period of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910).
